MISTY MOTORLAND MAYHEM – RD6 EUROPEAN TALENT CUP

After a two month summer break it was back to action for Rd 6 of the FIM World Junior Championship at the famous MotorLand Aragon, the longest circuit on the calendar with some serious elevation, complex turns, super long back straight and of course the unmissable wall!

With the forecast looking fantastic for the whole weekend, it seemed the racing Gods had other ideas in mind. Thursday morning presented a thick morning mist delaying proceedings. Kyle was the first session out, Group A, which got underway 2 hours later than planned at 11am once conditions had improved but still far from perfect until the final 10 minutes meaning only a handful of meaningful laps achieved. The afternoon practice session took place in more traditional sunny condition and Kyle managed to get in some solid laps to understand the circuit.

Tricky conditions as the mist descends on the circuit

Friday practice: The story was much the same, achieving only 5 laps in the morning practice before the session was red flagged due to weather conditions being unsafe. Friday afternoon: The heavens opened and in the blazing sun Kyle set a PB lap of 2.06.4.

Climbing up to the highest point of the circuit

Saturday gave us 2 x 40 minute qualifying sessions in the beautiful sunshine and time to set the fastest lap possible. Q1: Kyle struggled to get into a rhythm and to stay with the riders around, however still made a marginal improvement to his lap time from Friday with a 2.06.3 but leaving him a little frustrated due to the missed track time. Q2: Determined as ever, Kyle pushed hard and improved to a 2.04.9, another new PB and much happier with his performance. ( This also meant his bet with his teammate Blai that he couldn’t do a 2.04 resulted in Blai doing 100 push ups haha). Following the Q2 session, Kyle was called to the race office and given a back of the grid penalty for riding a slow sector however he was not the only one so would have to wait until Sunday to see how the grid shaped up for the 9am race.

Team preparing the bike for Sundays all important race

Sunday morning race day!!! Unfortunately the mist was back with a vengeance and after a 1 hour start delay, race control made the decision to cancel the race based on safety concerns. This was the correct decision at the time however extremely disappointing and also frustrating as the weather cleared a further hour later but the schedule did not allow a change of decision.

We now look forward to the last round action of the season in Valencia at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, a circuit Kyle is familiar with and determined to achieve his best result of season.

Massive thank you to all our sponsors who make this possible.

Thank you, Halo, MotorEasy, Kenobi, ACT, MDM-R and Eyesite.
