RENTLESS WINDY RICARDO TORMO CIRCUIT MAKES FOR CHALLANGING FINAL ROUND – R7 European Talent cup

Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia Spain would see the final action of the World Junior Championship for the 2023 season. Thursday morning and ready for the first free practice of the weekend the pilots exited the pitlane in very blustery conditions. As the session increased in excitement so did the wind speeds reaching in excess of 50km/h and making the small light capacity bikes extremely hard to control. Kyle managed to get a few laps in early in the session setting a 1 min 46.8 sec but as the session continued and wind speeds continuing it became near impossible to navigate the circuit accurately. Following the session a wind speeds hitting 70km/h the organisers were forced to cancel any further action for the day due to safety concerns.

Friday would see a lot of waiting around and no action!

Friday morning and the weather conditions were similar, the organisers threatened to start proceedings but after much waiting and anticipation the wind persisted and all practice was again cancelled.

Saturday and still very windy but marginally better than the previous day the action resumed be it under constant review and occasional delay. Kyle headed out at 9am for his first session and managed to set a time of 1 min 45.5 sec as he adapted to the tricky conditions. The second qualifying session would be at 2pm and although the wind continued to make riding tricky the sun had appeared and the temperature a little more pleasant. Kyle headed out and quickly got in a good rhythm and was super happy with a PB time of 1min 44.3 seconds, be it only by .1 second considering the wind it was a great achievement.

Kyle wheelie happy with his new PB time

Race day and Kyle would start P9 on the grid for his race out of 28, conditions a little improved but still a very windy a a little chilly (for Spain anyhow). For the last time the season the lights went out and as in all the previous races this season a great start briefly slotting into 4th and crossing the line in P6 after the first lap. A action packed race with a group of 14 riders swapping positions with Kyle sitting in P8/P9 for much of the race, forced a bit wide in the final lap and conceding a few places a respectable finish in P11 and more impressively a new PB of 1 min 43.4 secs, nearly a second quicker and a great way to finish the season.

Off the line Kyle sneaking briefly into P4
