Round 3 of the FIM JuniorGP World Championship took place in Spain at the circuit of Barcelona. Unfortunately exams meant missing the two practice days of this race weekend making an already tough task that little bit more challenging.
The First session on Saturday morning was free practice. Having already missed so much track time, the goal was to just improve every lap. However, 20 minutes before the session it started to rain and within minutes the track was soaked. The goal now was to just accept the conditions and go and ride, taking the wet confidence of both Misano and Estoril wet weather. The Session started well and on the last lap the championship leader passed Kyle onto the front straight and he decided to just follow the best he could. Through both the first and second sectors Kyle stuck to his back wheel. Then came the right hander before the back straight which resulted in a high side which flung Kyle up in the air, fortunately the rider was ok.
Q1 was up next, and the weather was beautiful. The sun is out, and the track is dry. The goal is simply to go out with the group and go as fast as possible. In typical ETC fashion all the riders are wobbling round not wanting to give each other a tow and due to the lack of dry track time kyle decided to just break away and do laps by himself. With a last lap of 1:55:581 Kyle ended up only half a second from qualifying for the feature race putting him P8 on the last chance grid.
Once again in the last chance race but in a better grid position than ever. The goal? To ride with the front group. Kyle took a few laps to get going dropping back to 9th and loosing the front group but on lap 3 to 4 he closed them back in putting in a his fastest lap of the weekend so far. On lap 5 he made his way back up to 8th and then to 7th on lap 6. After swapping numerous places in the last two laps, briefly even getting into second place, a fast lap of 1:54:523 secured Kyles best finish yet in the last chance race, a 6th place.
This was an interesting weekend to say the least but once again Kyle proved that the pace was there to qualify. Moving onto his favourite track Portimao in a few weeks now with the full weekend on offer Kyle is confident in his ability to qualify and will again put 100% into the weekend.
